Team Langenfeld Habitat For Humanity Elgin, IL
Team Langenfeld is our community service Team formed on the true desire to give back to the community through volunteering our time and donations for various groups and events in our own backyards. On Wednesday, June 24th, this came to fruition once again with the Team conducting the first Habitat for Humanity project of 2009. It was hot, humid, and dirty but a lot of fun. Ron Burke, Steve Henley, Mike McElligott, Perrin Stephens, Rob Sniegowski, Ann Marie Glenn, Andre' Glenn and Judy Kopka all volunteered for the event.
Team Langenfeld helped a family of six with their yard in preparation for sod. The house construction was complete, but in order for the family to move in over the next couple of weeks, the sod has to be completed. The sod can't be laid on mountains of dirt so we moved the dirt, stones and rocks in 100 degree weather, until they had a nice flat yard for sod. It was a great day and very fulfilling for Team Langenfeld.
We were also very fortunate to have met the family. Actually, all six were present helping and looking forward to moving in. Four teenagers help make up this proud and fortunate family and they couldn't wait to get out of the apartment they were living in. With the help of Habitat for Humanity and over 300 volunteers, who built the house, the family will have a beautiful home for a mortgage less then what they currently pay in rent. Habitat for Humanity really does amazing things!
Our thanks go to the Northern Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity chapter for allowing Team Langenfeld to participate in the project. Our next event is another Habitat for Humanity project on August 19th and we know the Team is really looking forward to the opportunity to give back and help another very worthy and fulfilling event to a successful completion.
